10:18 pm - Does anyone still use this?
Here is a question: If I started using my LiveJournal again, who all would still read it.  Post a comment if you will.  If there is enough of a response, I may try to restart my blog.

11:47 pm - EEK V2.0
Just to give you all a heads up, I'm still alive and well. Scout is doing well too. (For those of you who don't know, as I have not yet mentioned it in here, I got a kitten over the summer.)

Still working, the job is going well. Went to New York for a work trip last month. Going to San Francisco early next month to a conference for work.

In other news, you may (but probably don't) remember Summer of 2005's project, EEK. Click here for old journal entry. EEK never got off the ground, too much Michigan Cancer (rust). She was free, didn't really invest any money in her. However, when I was done with her and concluded that she was not salvageable, she was able to successfully drive almost 20 miles one way to the junk yard!

Anyways, about a month ago, I stumbled upon EEK V2.0. A 1988 Dodge Aries Station Wagon. Unlike EEK, she wasn't free, but $100 isn't much for an almost working car. She drove home, but needed a little help. A new starter and a few junk yard trips and I've already put 1345 miles on her! She still has a few kinks left in her, but she seems to run better each time I drive her. (She was neglected by the previous person who owned her for 3 months.) The funnest part is that she has a manual transmission.

Anyways, I'm sure there's more news, but it skips my mind at the moment.

9:57 pm - Random update, Random shit (in bullet form...)
What does a dancing banana have to do with "peanut butter jelly time"? Anyone watching Family Guy right now would understand why that just popped into my mind.

Friday's Musings:
-When you need something (Teflon tape), you know you have it, but can't find it, it really sucks, especially when both cars are non-functional.
-Necto's rules. Better than any club I've ever been to in Detroit.
-If you ever go to Taco Hell in A2, they own me a soft taco. Complain for me.

Saturday's Musings:
-Does oolong tea prevent hangovers?
-Either that, or my tolerance is increasing.
-Family Reunion...yawn.
-Boredom can lead to useless knowledge. 3212333 222 399 3212333 322321
-Boredom doesn't end there. 1231 1231 369 369 9*9631 9*9631 111 111
-Random numbers? Not quite. 'Mary had a little lamb' and 'Frere Jacques.' Figure it out.
-Roads in Detroit have no road signs.
-Pulling into a parking lot as opposed to making a u-turn in Detroit will get you pulled over.
-Detroit cops pull you over in force. Two cop cars, 4 cops.
-Detroit cops only ask for your license, but never for insurance/registration.
-If you and a friend are going to a gay club, are pulled over by the cops, and they ask where you are going, what do you tell them? Any lie and your stories won't match.
-Naming a gay club (Backstreet) to a cop in Detroit will result in him shouting it out to his partners asking what it is. Then each cop repeating the name of the club.
-Better yet, the club was only a block away...
-Even if you were not speeding, Detroit cops will still tell you to slow down before they pull away.
-Backstreet sucks.
-When you ask for a drink at Backstreet, they'll always screw it up somehow.
-Backstreet would make more money if they left the lights off. Then you would never see how ugly everyone else is.
-You will fit in at Backstreet if you:
     *Are Fat.
     *Are Bald.
     *Have a shaved head.
     *Are old.
*Think that you are 'all that' when you're not.
-If you fall into one of the aforementioned categories, get off the f***ing stage/platform.

Sunday's Musings:
-It is next to impossible to buy/find a 19/32" socket in a store.
-On eBay however, you can buy a 'vintage' 19/32" socket. I'll soon be a proud owner of one. Wanna come over and 'ooo' and 'ahh' over it?
-It's surprising how many ways you can contort to loosen Engine/Trans mounting bolts on a Ford Ranger.
-It also helps if you try turning the bolt the right way to loosen it.
-If you see someone in their backyard working under a beat-up pickup truck, don't ask them if they would like their lawn cut, it should be a given that they will be too cheap to pay someone to do it, so don't ask.

You know tech support must be bad when you are given a choice of 6 different music options to listen to while on hold.

On the bright side though, I can say that was the most enjoyable hold music (XTC - Dear God) I've had in a long time.

5:13 pm - My phone number is changing...
Hey all,

It sure has been a long time since I last updated my Journal. First things first:
Both of my phone numbers that many of you may know are no longer any good. (Well, my cell phone number will be good until at least Monday, but it is being disconnected.) I am not going to post my new phone number(s) on LiveJournal, so if you feel that you are someone that deserves my phone number, leave a comment and I will make sure you get my new numbers.

In other news, it is my third week of work down here in Southfield...wahoo! I'm finally starting to do important stuff, but well, it's still slow going, I have a lot to learn and all that. I'm actually at work right now moving some stuff from testing to production. Yeah, today is a late day.

I can't think of much else to really say right now. Everything is going good, the team I am on at work is pretty cool, I'm making new friends in the area, catching up with some old ones, get to see the family a bit more, rush hour sucks, the usual, etc.

1:54 am - Randomness...
First off, [info]frogger33, you are overdue for an update...GET ON IT GIRL!

Now, lets get down to business (as I suddenly get an Eminem song stuck in my head...but I digress). And I also just realized what day it is today...

hmm...There is a Google Romance now. I don't think that is what I'm looking for. But since I'm still with Cody, now isn't the time to check that out. Now, back to looking for what this special day has to hold on Google.

Hmm, upon closer inspection, Google Romance was what I wanted. Doesn't quite rival years past, such as this. If you still don't know what I'm talking about yet, you must realize that by the time you read this, it will no longer be that special day. In fact, it's technically the day after already.

hmm...some of the stories on Slashdot are actually rather sad, but are good for a momentary laugh. Apparently China Bought Google, Microsoft bought OpenOffice.org, how to make your own OMG ponies, USB Sushi Disks (I've seen those for sale online before), etc. Apparently, the Slashdot articles have gone downhill. At one time, you used to actually have to read the post to figure out if it was real or not, and even then, it was intermixed with real news. I think that we are at the point that we can no longer trust anything on Slashdot on April Fools Day.

But enough of that digression, I'm sure you've all seen your share of April Fools Jokes.

I got a job interview in Southfield this week, so I'm going to be heading down to Detroit again, but I don't know how much free time I am going to have down there, so I probably won't be giving many people a call.

I can't think of anything else to really say on here, life as usual otherwise up here...

This is what happens when it is late and I need a life: CLICK HERE!

Now, if I could set the contents of that window to automatically display on my LiveJournal Page...(without being inside an entry.)

Yes, that is live...provided that I am actually listening to mp3s at home...
And no, LiveJournal doesn't allow javascript in entries...

It's been almost two months since the last update. Not much new to report. I'm a poor jobless schmuck. Okay, maybe that is exaggerating, I can at least pretend I have money for the time being...lol. It is a slow time of the year for the company I've been working with, so I'm not getting much work with them right now.

I'm heading to Detroit tomorrow to go to a career fair, see if I can score some awesome job. We'll see what happens. It is the right time of the year to find something. Dunno how much visiting time I will have while I'm down there, mostly stuff to do and family. If there is time, you're in Detroit, you may get a call. Otherwise I was probably too busy.

Other points of interest or indifference:
Cody and I are still together...
I need to update the way my livejournal looks...
I'm accepting donations for the "Buy Nick new toys" fund...
I hate Hewlett Packard...they suck, don't buy anything from them...
I should be sleeping right now, but I'm not...
I'm sure there is more to say, but my mind draws a blank...

8:39 am - Long Time, No Update
Well, it's 7:30 in the morning here in Duluth, MN, and guess what! I'm in the basement of a bar! Yippie!

Actually I'm down here working for timing a sled dog race, they just happen to have their headquarters in the basement of a bar. It's been over a month since I last updated, so here is the scoop in brief:

*Graduated from NMU! I think I graduated with honors if I'm right about what I think I am.
*Pseudo-unemployed - Been working with a sports timing company timing races and writing some software, but it's not an official full-time job, nor can offer the hours/opportunities/pay of a real job. But working with good people and making money to pay the bills.
*Still living in Marquette
*Still with Cody

Don't know what else to report....I'm alive and well. I should update this more often, but we'll see if I end up getting around to it.

5:23 am - Einstein
So I'm getting sick during the worst time. The last week of classes and the week before finals. Great fun.

Anyways, in my boredom and inability to sleep, I managed to get around to checking the non-LiveJournal blogs my friends keep. Compliments of cchoffme's blog for this fine riddle of the evening. Granted I'm sure we have all seen it before, but well, I actually sat down and figured it out this morning.

riddle )

For those of you who are wondering, no, I didn't cheat. However, I did google the answer after I arrived at an answer of my own and it matched. Kudos to me! All you need is a good methodology and some logic to find the answer. It isn't that hard if you use common sense and logic. (Then again, I'm a CS major so I'm used to thinking of problems in terms of logic.) If you are bored and have an hour to sit down, give it a try, see if you can do it.

9:46 am - Senior Project Paper
This made my day. Below are the contents of an email from my professor:

>I just picked up South Park Season Six, and unfortunately it is affecting the way I communicate.
>
>Bert and John--I got your papers; they are awesome.
>
>Nick--your paper is better than awesome; get a life, hippy.
>
>Joe and Russ--WHERE IS YOUR GODDAM PAPER, GODDAMMIT!!!

6:48 am - Word Perfect - A rant about how Microsoft Word is evil
Things are still going here. Busy as all here. Sounds like a company in Wisconsin wants an interview, so that is a good sign. I was half asleep when I talked to them on the phone, but it was just the HR person getting more information, then later I guess the IS dept is going to contact me.

But as I work on finishing my senior project report, I've remembered why I love Word Perfect so much. Formatting has been a breeze! And it's all thanks to the help of Reveal Codes! If I was trying to do this in Microsoft Word, the laptop would have been out the window by now. Microsft could never seem to get formatting right. And even when you did format, the formatting never worked right. Center the last line of one page, suddenly the first line of the next page is centered. Left justify the first line of the next page, then the previous page is then left justified again. And I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, Microsoft Word is evil!

A few years ago, I looked for "Reveal Codes" in the Microsoft Word help for Word Perfect users, and it literally said that Microsoft Word was so great that it didn't need a "Reveal Codes" function. They have since changed that, offering a solution that doesn't offer anywhere near the power of Word Perfect's "Reveal Codes" function.

I could go on, but I must get back to my paper, it is almost done, 17 pages and going!

when I´ve broken every door
the ghosts of my life, they´re wilder - than before

12:34 am - One more update
I've also sunk to a new low. I went shopping at 5am on black friday to one of the worst places ever, Wal-Mart. I can say that I now own a new laptop, only cost $378. It needs a ram upgrade, but other than that, it seems like a pretty good laptop. People are even selling the exact laptop I bought on eBay right now for $550+! So I guess it was a good buy. Now comes the question: Do I buy the laptop that NMU gave me too? Or just return it.

10:33 pm - Random Update
Well, the snow came, then rain, then the snow melted, then is turning back to snow and ice again tonight. Fun fun fun.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled yesterday, so I'm having loads of fun now.

Still no job, got a rejection email back from the phone interview. More apps still in, but haven't heard a thing back.

Senior project is still a work in progress, although finally half functional, http://www.urbanspeleology.com / Check it out if you dare. There are still some problems with how it looks (and works) but you can actually do stuff on it now.

Blah Blah Blah...this sure was a joyful entry.

10:57 pm - Winter Storm Warning
Well, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I'm still up north at home. I'm not going to Detroit mainly because I was just there last weekend, and even if I tried to go, I'd be hitting the shittiest roads cause of all the snow, ice and wind. (And Cody is here, so we're spending Thanksgiving together.)

I went to Detroit last weekend to a job fair in hopes of finding a job. I put in a bunch of apps and and resumes, and I even got one phone interview:-) I took it this morning, but we'll have to see how it went. The company is in Ann Arbor, and they called me back to set up the phone interview within 1-2 hours of when I submitted my resume to the position online! That seems the most promising so far, but we'll have to see what develops.

The snow and wind is really going here. Cody and I just got back from Vango's. The roads are shitty too, my guess is that there'll be a few closed roads up here tomorrow. Thankfully we don't have to go anywhere tomorrow. We have a video store and a gas station in town that will be open tomorrow if we need anything.

Other than that, not much new here, just lots of school, homework, work, and searching for jobs.

So you think you like Hung Up by Madonna? Go download Gimme Gimme Gimme by Abba. Sound familiar?

At least I finally figured out what that Abba(ish) song I've been hearing on the radio lately is.

2:22 am - Schools
And apparently you can now list the schools you go/went to on your livejournal userinfo. Never noticed that before, must be new. I'm kinda scared to put that I attended South Lake...I don't know if I want to connect back up to many of the people that went there, or have them find me. I never seemed to care for a lot of them. High School Sucked...lol.
